TLS-RPT setup

Check or generate the record that asks receivers to report SMTP transport failures.

Who can do this: Domain administrators and authorised testers.

Before you start: A reporting address able to receive reports and permission to change DNS when you later publish.

Steps and checks

  1. Check the current recordManual check

    Look up _smtp._tls for the chosen domain.

  2. Generate and reviewManual check

    Enter the intended reporting destination; generating a record does not publish it.

  3. Publish through your DNS administratorManual check

    Confirm the exact owner name/value and any required destination authorisation.

  4. Verify receiptManual check

    Confirm collection and wait for actual provider reports. A valid record does not prove receipt.

Common questions

Why are there no reports yet?

Receivers control report timing and support. Check DNS, destination delivery and collection; a successful local test does not establish external-provider reporting.
